Is Spider Plant safe for pets?
Chlorophytum comosum · Asparagaceae
Choose your pet
Light: Bright, indirect light. Tolerates a few hours of morning sun; harsh afternoon sun scorches the leaf tips.
Water: Water when the top 3 cm of soil is dry — roughly weekly in summer, every 10–14 days in winter. Use filtered or stood-out water; fluoride in tap water browns the tips.
With pets: Cats are drawn to the dangling plantlets and the mild compounds in the leaves can cause a chewing habit. Not toxic, but heavy grazing leads to vomiting simply from the volume of fibre. Hang it out of jumping range if your cat is a dedicated nibbler.
Look-alike warning: Contains mild compounds that act as a feline attractant, so cats often chew it repeatedly. Harmless, but heavy grazing causes vomiting from sheer fibre volume.
