Is Areca Palm safe for pets?
Dypsis lutescens (syn. Chrysalidocarpus lutescens) · Arecaceae
Choose your pet
Light: Bright, indirect light. Rotate a quarter turn weekly so it grows evenly.
Water: Water when the top 5 cm is dry. Palms hate sitting wet — always empty the saucer.
With pets: A large safe plant, which is rare — ideal for filling a corner in a dog household. Dogs may chew the cane-like stems out of boredom rather than appetite; a chew toy nearby usually solves it.
Look-alike warning: Sago palm (Cycas revoluta) is sold beside it and is severely toxic to the liver. Confirm the botanical name before buying.
